Camp Brereton

Our First Camp Out this year was held the weekend of September 23-24, 2000 at Camp Brereton in Whiteshell Provincial Park, Manitoba.

15 Cubs, 4 Leaders and 2 Moms were in attendance--WHAT A BLAST WE HAD!!

DAY 1

  • Departure from St. Aidan's 9:30 a.m.
  • Arrival @ Camp Brereton 11:00 a.m.
  • Hiked 1 1/2 hours gathering branches  3 times our height to be used for the construction of the sweat lodge.
  • Lunch--Mmmmmm Hot Dogs
  • Outdoor games and mischief
  • Supper--Akela's Famous Spaghetti, Salad & Garlic Toast
Akela made us his Famous Spaghetti for supper …. But for some reason he didn't eat any himself???  Hmmmmmmm….. 
  • More Mischief &  Watched a beautiful Sunset
  • FIREWORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were treated to some awesome fireworks!!!  We thought they were even better than the ones we've seen in the city--AND it was a private showing just for us and the woodland creatures.
  • Bingo!  Mug Up! & Bedtime!
(It was a Cold Night. Good thing we had Bagheera & Maggie there to stoke the fire all night!)

DAY 2

  • Breakfast--Pancakes & Bacon
  • Clean Up!
  • Begin Construction of Sweat Lodge
  • Canoe trip while Sweat Lodge rocks heated up
Though they didn't plan it, Akela and King Louie even took a dip in the cold cold lake.  Good thing they had a change of clothes!! 
  • Sweat Lodge Fun!!!  WOW was it HOT in there!!!!! 
  • Lunch--Grilled Cheese Sandwiches & Chicken Noodle Soup--Mmmmmmm!!
  • Clean Up & Pack Up!
  • Lost & Found Fun!!!
Anyone who didn't look after their belongings had to sing before they had them returned.  We learned many new variations on how to Sing "I'm a Little Teapot" before we left for home. 
  • Detoured on the way home and visited the Goose Sanctuary.  The Goose Population was at 800!
  • Home by 5 p.m.
